Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9075 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1261 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1019 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8880 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Greece impedes windfarms on Skyros Island to protect bird species

Greece impeded the construction of six windfarms on the central Aegean Island of Skyros to protect bird species, local media reported on Wednesday.

In its assessment, the Environment Ministry pointed out that the wind farms would cause permanent damage to protected bird species, including Eleonora’s falcon and Bonelli’s eagle, which would be at risk of being killed by collision with the wind turbines, the daily Kathimerini reported.

It added that the Island is an important passage and stopover for migratory birds.

‘Delusional’ Brexiteers will die soon, says Ryanair chief
Brexit critic Michael O’Leary says Britain will be back in the EU within a generation

The chief executive of Ryanair has claimed Britain will be forced to rejoin the European Union’s single market by a generation of pro-Europeans as Brexiteers die out.

Michael O’Leary, the boss of Europe’s largest airline, claimed the British people had been sold a “tissue of lies” over the benefits of quitting the EU and said exiting the bloc had been “unbelievably messy”.

Mr O'Leary accused Boris Johnson of being “completely delusional” about Brexit and said leaving the EU would be a “net negative” in the next five years.

Speaking at a Bloomberg event, Mr O’Leary said: “Everything that was promised to the UK population, the sunny uplands and the ability to do trade deals everywhere around the world were shown to be a tissue of lies.”

“We mistakenly assumed there would be some kind of competence at the top of the government under Johnson and they would at least put the economy first and do a sensible deal.

“It turns out that was completely delusional, just like Johnson and the rest of his Brexit cohort.”

Tesco to open its first ever pub to help the nation celebrate the Coronation

Ahead of the Coronation, supermarket Tesco is encouraging the nation to do good by going to the pub, as it opens the doors to its first ever public house: The King in the Castle.

Located in London’s Farringdon, The King in the Castle is inviting people to come together with friends and family, whether they’re marking the historic occasion or simply making the most of the long weekend, with all proceeds from the pub going to the supermarket’s longstanding charity partner, youth charity The Prince’s Trust.

Open from 4th – 5th May, the pub will offer a Coronation-themed menu featuring products from the Tesco limited-edition Coronation food range.

Bookings for the pub can be made via OpenTable from today, however walk-in sittings will also available.

PM outlines plans for development of Ionian islands

The 2030 regional development plan for the Ionian islands includes over 260 projects budgeted at 1.3 billion euros, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Corfu on Wednesday.

He noted that funds for the program will come from the EU’s NSRF, the Public Investments Program, the “Antonis Tritsis” program and the Recovery Fund.

Naming some of the projects included in the plan, Mitsotakis mentioned road infrastructure (particularly the Argostoli-Poros section on Kefalonia, and the submarine power cable of Lefkada), the major issue of managing household waste, the ongoing repairs from storm damage and the investments in works to prevent further damage from weather phenomena.

Panel of Experts Releases Report on Deadly Rail Crash in Greece

According to the findings, the accident was the result of a confluence of factors, including shortcomings at the level of operation, human resources and technological equipment.

In the conclusion of 228 pages, which is divided into 10 chapters, there is an apportioning of responsibilities to organizations and persons, such as OSE, ERGOSE, the Transport Regulatory Authority, Hellenic Train and the station master.

Vassilis Samaras, the station master at Larissa on the night of the accident has been remanded in custody.

The report also puts at fault the train drivers, who allegedly did not follow the regulations.

There is also a reference to the need to immediately modernize the railway, as chronic shortcomings are identified, as well as to the need for radical changes in matters of personnel transfers and training.

Seems the dead and injured ducks at Koutavos weren't subjected to gunfire.  Possibly the pecking order got out of hand.
