Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9108 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1373 USD
£1 GBP = 1.0979 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8793 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

One-way traffic system in Skala resumes w.e.f. tomorrow, 01 May, so I believe. Care suggested in case the news doesn't reach all locals promptly.

Greek Choir To Sing In Tribute To Philip At King’s Coronation

The moment has been specially commissioned to reflect the King’s paternal heritage.

The choir will sing Psalm 71 during the exchange of swords in the investiture, with the words printed in both Greek and English in the coronation liturgy.

Meat is crucial for human health, scientists warn
Close to a thousand experts unite behind statement that rejects ‘zealotry’ of plant-based diets and promotes livestock farming

Meat is crucial for human health, scientists have warned, as they called for an end to the “zealotry” pushing vegetarian and vegan diets.

Dozens of experts were asked to look into the science behind claims that meat eating causes disease and is harmful for the planet in a special issue of Animal Frontiers.

They warned that it is difficult to replace the nutritional content of meat, arguing that poorer communities with low meat intake often suffer from stunting, wasting and anaemia driven by a lack of vital nutrients and protein.

I think maybe it's a matter of how much meat we eat  :dunno:

Retractable dog leads blamed for rise in serious brain injuries

Dog walkers should use short leashes and avoid long, retractable leads when on walks to prevent broken fingers and head injuries, vets have said.

They suggested that a traditional, shorter lead is safer after a study found a link between traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and walking a dog.

Brain injuries were the second most common form of injury to occur when walking a leashed dog, with broken fingers the only injury that was more likely.

Fears of another summer of travel chaos over airport security red tape

Summer holidays could still yet be under threat as Whitehall red tape threatens to hold up vetting and security clearances for airport security staff.

Executives at one of the world’s biggest airport ground handling companies say hundreds of staff bound for UK airports have been left in limbo as it takes up to 12 weeks to carry out the necessary checks.

The locals are the only people likely to be aware of any Date restrictions
Met someone driving wrong way up a street now clearly signposted One Way (alongside Big Village/Socrates) on Wed, but just standard No Entry or One Way arrows. No Date info.

Similarly, the signs for the main Skala pedestrian area have no Month info, just Times - which in typical Greek style have 06:00-23:00 on one sign, immediately opposite a sign stating 07:00-24:00 for exactly the same road

"Care suggested in case the news doesn't reach all locals promptly." Ah, that was my attempt to politely say, in case any locals ignore the one-way system as I've never been sure anyone bothers out of season.

Good to know the road signs are still conflicting, a little touch of not bygone Greece ;)

A Greek "Escape Room" Was Declared No. 1 In The World

Athens could be a case study for escape rooms. It counts at least 200 escape rooms and is the "escape capital" for good reasons, while also hosting the best Escape Room in the world.

Lockhill in the Athens neighbourhood of Metaxourgeio succeeded and brought Greece to the top of the world ranking on the map of Escape Rooms.

Escape rooms have become increasingly popular in recent years. For those unfamiliar, an escape room equivalent is essentially a physical adventure game where players are locked in a room and must use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit.

Reviews of a couple of restaurants you might want to try if you're in the area:

Carlisle - Alexandros: - used to be our 'local', if it looks a little crowded there might be a table in the more spacious back room

EC1 - The Kolossi, a.k.a. Attica: - one I doubt I'll get around to trying.

Millions around world asked to cry out in support of King at coronation

Millions watching the coronation around the world are to be asked to cry out and swear allegiance to the King, with the public given an active role in the ancient ceremony for the first time in history.

Charles’s coronation has been modernised to include the first ever Homage of the People. It replaces the traditional Homage of Peers in which a long line of hereditary peers knelt and made a pledge to the monarch in person.

The Archbishop will call upon “all persons of goodwill in The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the other Realms and the Territories to make their homage, in heart and voice, to their undoubted King, defender of all”.

The order of service will read: “All who so desire, in the Abbey, and elsewhere, say together:

“All: I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”

It will be followed by the playing of a fanfare. The Archbishop of Canterbury will then proclaim “God Save The King”, with all asked to respond: “God Save King Charles. Long Live King Charles. May The King live for ever.”

New artificial intelligence tool can accurately identify cancer
Exclusive: algorithm performs more efficiently and effectively than current methods, according to a study

Doctors, scientists and researchers have built an artificial intelligence model that can accurately identify cancer in a development they say could speed up diagnosis of the disease and fast-track patients to treatment.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. It results in about 10 million deaths annually, or nearly one in six deaths, according to the World Health Organization. In many cases, however, the disease can be cured if detected early and treated swiftly.

The AI tool designed by experts at the Royal Marsden NHS foundation trust, the Institute of Cancer Research, London, and Imperial College London can identify whether abnormal growths found on CT scans are cancerous.

The algorithm performs more efficiently and effectively than current methods, according to a study.
