Kef fire risk 03/09/22: Medium

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8907 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0304 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1227 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9705 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

All bus fares in England to be capped at £2 during cost of living crisis
The move will see the price of a single bus journey in England capped at £2 for three months from January

Bus journeys in England will be capped at £2 from January to March next year, Grant Shapps, the transport secretary has announced.

According to the Department for Transport, the £60m plan could see some passengers save more than £3 per single bus ticket.

The department said the average fare for a three-mile journey is around £2.80, meaning that passengers will now save 30 per cent of the price every time they travel.

Single fares that are already lower than £2 will not be affected by the cap.

No mention of season ticket prices.

Google Chrome emergency update fixes new zero-day used in attacks

Google has released Chrome 105.0.5195.102 for Windows, Mac, and Linux users to address a single high-severity security flaw, the sixth Chrome zero-day exploited in attacks patched this year.

It was available immediately when BleepingComputer checked for new updates by going into the Chrome menu > Help > About Google Chrome.

The web browser will also auto-check for new updates and automatically install them after the next launch.

Given that the zero-day bug patched today is also known to have been exploited by attackers in the wild, it is strongly recommended to upgrade the Google Chrome web browser as soon as possible.

Three Austrian tourists managed to get trapped between a rock and a hard to get out of place next to Petani beach earlier today. Apparently they had swum the short distance on Friday, with basic camping gear, intending to return today but hadn't anticipated a sea too rough to swim. A rescue operation involving fire fighters and coast guard eventually recovered them in good health.

Britain will be forced to buy back gas shipped to Europe

Britain will be forced to buy back gas exported to Europe to keep the lights on this winter after supplying about 15pc of supplies stored on the Continent.

The UK's lack of storage means that gas which was shipped to terminals this side of the Channel and then piped abroad will have to be pumped back into the country as temperatures fall.
