Kef fire risk 07/09/22: Medium

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8895 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0218 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1242 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9787 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Greece could be inundated wth OAPs this winter... well, maybe not, but it's promoting parts of Greece as winter escapes from cold north European winters and high north European prices. More news on ekathimerini.

Period dignity officer role scrapped after furore when job went to a man
International figures including former tennis ace Martina Navratilova say it is 'ridiculous' not to have put a woman in the role
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/09/06/period-dignity-officer-role-scrapped-huge-backlash-man-appointed

Navratilova might have been a great tennis player but that doesn't make her opinion any more valuable than mine or thine.

Minor drama outside Poros yesterday afternoon when the Leonidas struck rocks. Coast Guard patrol vessel and private boat attended but were not needed as the Leonidas detached itself from coastline and made its own way into Poros port where it awaits re-certification of seaworthiness. No injuries to the four occupants and no marine pollution observed.

Unlike the pigments in most human's skins while the pigments used in paints, particularly older/ancient ones fade particularly in the sun. Entropy strikes again.

Romanian airline Blue Air has been forced to suspend all flights for a week w.e.f. yesterday due to non payment of fines re emissions certificates. Flights should re-commence 12/09/22 but some holidaymakers may be temporarily stranded on Kef. Should be accommodation available but not necessarily where they are currently staying and not f.o.c. Greece to tap tourism revenues to keep subsidising power bills

Greece plans to tap higher than expected revenues from tourism this year, the country’s biggest cash-earner, to keep subsiding power bills, the government spokesman said on Monday.

Government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said that tourism receipts this year are seen beating the sector’s record performance in 2019, topping 18.2 billion euros ($18.1 billion).

Those revenues are seen helping Greece finance part of the subsidies it has offered to households and businesses since last year to relieve the burden from rising energy costs after Russia curbed gas supplies to Europe.

Meeting to be held over restaurants’ outdoor seating

Municipalities in Greece may grant an extension beyond the end-September deadline for the removal of extra restaurant tables and chairs in public areas, which had been placed outside due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE) will meet on Friday regarding the possibility of an extension.

Not sure how many on Kef will be affected, in resorts many seem to have permanent(?) kioskis / big umbrellas  :dunno:

That's a lot of money going up in smoke. Hopefully no-one injured.
