Eight new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1375
1 USD = € 0.8392

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Greece Brings In Climate Law, Banning Fossil-Fuel Cars From 2030

Greece introduced its first climate law, with a focus on low-carbon energy, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis steps up efforts to tackle the effects of the global environmental crisis.

The premier outlined his “ambitious” goals at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, including a ban on sales of new combustion-engine cars from 2030. While the law has been long-planned, extreme weather events this year have brought Greece’s vulnerability into sharp focus.

Google warns Android users of zero-day vulnerability being actively attacked

Google's latest monthly security patches for the Android operating system contains fixes for 39 flaws, including one security vulnerability that the tech giant says is being actively exploited in the wild.

In other words, some people are likely to have already been attacked using the vulnerability - before the security hole was known about by Google, and before a security patch was available.

Even if you don't consider yourself to be a target for the latest attacks, it's worth bearing in mind that the security patches also fix numerous other flaws in the Android operating system.

Greek Film on Notorious WWII Massacre Sparks Controversy as Filmmakers Fight Back

A new film about a notorious Nazi massacre in Greece during World War II has angered the descendants of the victims amid accusations that the filmmakers falsified historical events, with a victims’ group saying it’s filed a lawsuit against the producers.

Now the filmmakers are fighting back, with writer-producer Dimitrios Katsantonis describing the legal threats on Wednesday as “empty fireworks that will soon be revealed for what they are.”

“Echoes of the Past,” which is directed by Nicholas Dimitropoulos and stars the late Max von Sydow in his final performance, will have its world premiere Saturday at the Thessaloniki Film Festival before rolling out in Greek cinemas Nov. 11, where it will be released as “Kalavryta 1943.”

The film recounts the brutal massacre of some 700 Greek males by German troops in the Peloponnesian village of Kalavryta, in retaliation for the execution of nearly 80 Nazi soldiers by resistance fighters.

Heretic Boards Debut Director Yorgos Goussis’ Thessaloniki Premiere ‘Magnetic Fields’

Athens-based boutique production and sales outfit Heretic has boarded “Magnetic Fields,” the feature directorial debut of Yorgos Goussis, as executive producers. The film has its world premiere in the Film Forward section of the Thessaloniki Film Festival.

“Magnetic Fields” follows solo traveler Elena, who after deciding to change course on a whim finds herself on a ferry. There she meets Antonis, who is traveling to an island cemetery to bury a box containing his aunt’s bones.

When his car breaks down Elena offers him a ride, setting them off on a series of misadventures. Having enjoyed each other’s company and formed an effortless connection, they decide to keep wandering around the island in search of a good place to bury the box.

Goussis said that the film’s journey began in December 2020, when two actors and six crew members set off on a road trip from Athens to the island of Kefalonia...

Been reliably(?) informed that car hire companies in Greece can rent out vehicles up to twelve years old, which means that once the ban on new combustion-engines takes effect in 2030 petrol powered hire cars can be rented out until 2042 (change of law excepting). A lot might depend on what tourists are prepared to hire and what they're prepared to pay. Due to lack of rust old cars aren't uncommon on the islands so privately owned petrol cars could be chugging around for years (subject to availability of fuel).

Heard that new rules apply to KTEL bus passengers, recent negative Covid test or proof of vaccination required before ticket issued.
