Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9052 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1191 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1047 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8936 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Remastered portrait of Henry VIII on Royal Mint coins

Coins featuring a remastered portrait of Henry VIII have been unveiled by the Royal Mint.

Henry VIII, who reigned between 1509 and 1547, had the unfavourable nickname of “old Coppernose”, the Mint said.

Coinage was debased in his era, which involved combining the precious metal content of a coin with a more common metal, such as copper.

Coins were struck with increasing amounts of copper, with a thin layer of silver applied. This layer eventually wore away, particularly around the nose of the Henry VIII’s forward-facing portrait, the Mint said.

Yep, but I thought it was a  quite like the original 1500's coin (right) - rather unflattering.

Come to think of it, back in those days coins were probably the only image of the monarch most of the population saw.

Greek fighter jet crashes in Ionian Sea

Two pilots are missing after a two-seater F-4 “Phantom” fighter jet of the Hellenic Airforce crashed into the Ionian Sea during a training flight Monday.

A statement from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff said the accident occurred at 10.30 a.m. 25 nautical miles (46km) south of the Andravida air base, in northwestern Peloponnese.

The status of the pilots is not known and a search and rescue operation is under way. Two Hellenic Air Force AB-205 helicopters, one Hellenic Navy S-70 helicopter and several Coast Guard vessels are taking part in the operation. A C-130 military transport plane is on standby.

Some media reported that the two pilots ejected from the aircraft but the information could not be confirmed.

Abandoned Baby Donkey Becomes Internet Sensation in Greece

An abandoned baby donkey in the town of Koropi, east of Athens, has become an internet sensation in Greece.

The foal was found wandering alone in a field earlier in January. Animal rights campaigners raised the issue on social media and a home was found at a donkey protection center.

The center uploaded a video of the foal running around at the premises and meeting other donkeys. The center says it was fed milk from a bottle, but is gradually gaining strength.

The center is still looking for the foal’s mother but it has ruled out its adoption as a pet.

Donkeys are still used in Greece as a means of transportation, especially in villages or some of the more out-of-reach places.

Acoustic Kitty

A report from 1967 shows that the CIA spent millions of dollars in an attempt to train domesticated cats to spy on the Soviet Union. Yes, you read that correctly. Nicknamed Acoustic Kitty, the program involved implanting electronic spying equipment into live cats and then training them to "eavesdrop" on unsuspecting Cold War rivals.
