Trouble brewing for British cuppa as climate change threatens tea production
Climate change is putting the much-loved British cuppa at risk as extreme weather and rising temperatures hit tea-growing countries, a report warns.
The UK and Ireland drink more tea per person than any other countries in the world, with Kenya alone producing half the black tea drunk in the UK.
But a report from Christian Aid warns that Kenya, the world’s biggest exporter of black tea, faces more erratic rainfall, making floods and droughts more common, and rising temperatures.

Pet law put to public consultation
New legislation on pet ownership and the rights of stray animals that has been put to public consultation seeks to make animal abuse a felony and to introduce a more comprehensive supervisory framework.
According to the draft law presented by the Interior Ministry, representatives from the Union of Municipalities and Communities (KEDE), the Greek Ombudsman and selected animal rights organizations will be responsible for ensuring that the new laws are upheld.

River Thames: Rescuers try to save stranded whale for second time
Rescuers are attempting to catch a whale stranded in the River Thames in south west London for the second time.
RNLI teams managed to save the whale but it escaped an inflatable cushion that was guiding it while it was being towed to safety at 01:00 BST.
It was later found at about 10:00 a few miles along the river in Teddington but has now headed back towards Richmond.
It is believed the whale may have some injuries.

On Monday, Greece began sending police officers to its islands in order to strengthen security prior to the country’s grand opening for tourism.
More than 100 police officers are being sent to Mykonos, with similar plans in the works for the islands of Santorini and Rhodes. All of the most popular Greek tourist destinations are now being prepped for the mass arrival of foreign travelers.

River Thames whale: Stranded baby minke is put down
A juvenile minke whale that became stranded in the River Thames has been put down.
Hundreds of people gathered along the riverbanks in south-west London after the whale was first spotted on Sunday.
It was first freed from Richmond lock but became stranded a second time in Teddington.
Rescuers earlier said the condition of the animal had deteriorated "rapidly" and a vet team had been working to "end its suffering".
