Kef fire risk 21/05/23 Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8950 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1137 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1173 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8979 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:

Bit of a bump in Argostoli port yesterday morning involving a boat bearing the Cayman Islands flag and two Maltese flagged boats. Due to rough weather one hit the other two and all three suffered some damage. Two crew suffered minor injuries. No marine pollution observed but all three vessels confined to port until inspected and issued with seaworthiness certificates.

Indiana Jones in search of the Antikythera Mechanism

In the fifth installment of this beloved swashbuckling series of films, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) races against time to retrieve a legendary dial, the Antikythera Mechanism, created by ancient Greek scientist Archimedes in the 3rd century BC,... from the hands of a mad Nazi scientist.

May 21, 1864: The Ionian Islands unite with Greece

Corfu, together with the other Ionian islands, formed an autonomous state with its own flag and parliament (Ionian Parliament) in 1800 after Russia and Turkey agreed to this status.

However, with the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish war, the Ionian State sided with the Russians, who were eventually defeated.

The Ionian Islands were then occupied by the French for eight years.

In 1815, with the founding of the United State of the Ionian Islands, Corfu remained for 49 years under English protection and no longer under the French.

Finally, in 1863 a treaty was signed in London by the Great Powers according to which England renounced the protection of the Ionian Islands.

White theatregoers urged not to attend play aimed at black audiences
A theatre in east London says that one-off performance of race satire Tambo & Bones will be ‘free from the white gaze’

While the theatre’s website stated that “no one is excluded”, promotional material made it clear that white theatregoers are not welcome.

The UK’s first black police and crime commissioner (PCC) condemned the event, warning that it set a “poor and dangerous precedent”.

Festus Akinbusoye, the PCC for Bedfordshire, “strongly urged” the theatre and the play’s director to cancel its Black Out event.

Greek PM Wins Most Votes But Needs New Ballot to Rule Alone

*   Sunday’s vote was the first using a new proportional system
*   The result means there will likely be another election

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is on the verge of securing the highest votes in Greece's upcoming general election on Sunday. However, probably, he will not attain the necessary majority to establish a government independently, thus increasing the likelihood of another election taking place in approximately one month.

Mitsotakis, representing the centre-right New Democracy party, has garnered over 40.8% of the votes, with nearly 90% of the ballots counted. This performance surpasses initial expectations. The leftist Syriza party, led by former Premier Alexis Tsipras, has received approximately 20% of the support.
