Kef fire risk 20/06/22: Medium

Twenty one new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, none on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8807 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0801 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1355 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9258 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Birmingham family call 999 after spotting 5ft-long snake slithering across their living room floor

A petrified family in Birmingham dialled 999 after spotting a 1.5 metre-long snake slithering across the floor of their living room.

West Midlands Police were called to the scene in Hodge Hill on Sunday night and found the black and white snake under the sofa.

The RSPCA were unable to attend until the following morning, which left the police as the next best service to call.

Officers managed to get the reptile into a cage with a grabber stick and a pillow case, and it was taken to a local reptile house.

This ring is small enough to be suitable for a girl or a small woman. It appears to be hammered from a single piece of gold and has occasional platinum-group metal inclusions. Rings of this form are characteristically engraved with a figure of Eros, and it is probable that they were designed as love-gifts. The typically shallow engraving and the direction of the inscriptions, when present, show that they were not intended as signets.

Discovered in Sami, bought by the British Museum in 1867 from Louis, Duc de Blacas d'Aulps.

Unfinished and unwanted 9,000-passenger cruise ship to be scrapped

What was meant to be one of the world’s largest cruise ships is being prepared for its maiden voyage – to a scrapyard.

Global Dream II, which was designed to hold more than 9,000 passengers, had almost been completed at a shipyard on Germany’s Baltic coast. However, the shipbuilder MV Werften filed for bankruptcy in January 2022 and the administrators cannot find a buyer for Global Dream II.

Russian emails appear to show ‘network’ holding $4.5bn assets linked to Putin
Exclusive: Questions over palaces, vineyards and yachts run by entities that appear to be part of a cooperative

Palaces, yachts and vineyards reportedly provided to Vladimir Putin by friends and oligarchs can now be linked to what appears to be an informal network holding assets worth more than $4.5bn (£3.7bn).

A digital paper trail appears to suggest that an array of holiday homes and other assets reportedly used by the Russian president, which according to available records belong to or have been owned by separate individuals, companies and charities, are linked through a common email domain name, LLCInvest.ru.
