A 71-year-old woman and her 44-year-old nephew were beaten and burned alive in their home on the island of Aegina, a postmortem has revealed.
Authorities believe that that the pair were tied up by robbers who were hoping to find valuables or cash in the property.

Taxpayers in Greece shoulder a higher tax burden than their counterparts in other member-states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to the OECD’s annual Revenue Statistics report.
The report argues that the main trend observed among member-states is a reduction in revenues from corporate tax and a rise in takings from taxpayers.
“Enterprises continue to find ways to pay less, with taxpayers footing the bill in the end,” commented Pascal Saint-Amans, director of the OECD’s Center for Tax Policy and Administration.

Just had a man in a van come round, sounded like he was announcing a service would be down tomorrow morning but couldn't catch any details of what / where / how long. Rigging up new 'phone lines in Tzanata last night, big cables all across the road.
No idea how much of the area was affected but mains electricity off here today from around 08:00-15:00

Four arrested for petrol bomb attack against nursery
Two of the four suspects who were arrested for the arson attack in Larissa are under age
The police announced that four suspects have been arrested for an arson attack with petrol bombs against a nursery school in Larissa on Thursday.
Specifically, two 17-year-olds, one 18-year-old and a 35-yearold man have been identified and were arrested on Thursday evening.

JD Wetherspoon database of 656,723 punters hit by cyber attack
The pub chain has confirmed a data breach took place in June but it only was informed this week
However, Wetherspoons, which operates more 953 pubs, insisted that only “extremely limited” credit and debit card details of 100 customers, who had bought vouchers online, and had been taken.
It sought to reassure those customers that just the last four digits of their card numbers had been accessed. Because the company does not store the rest of the card digits, and because names and card expiry dates were untouched, it said the data could not be used for fraud.

There is another side to this, and that is we're now discussing a group of workers who may not have started working, and paying tax, until around their 20's
So not fair to compare them to older workers who may well have started their careers and tax contributions at 16, or even 15
These days of course, many don't start paying any contributions until they're well into their 20's - but will still compare their projected pensions with today's well deserving, and not particularly well rewarded, OAPs

Dr Peter Sutton, who teaches at Redborne Upper School, is writing a book about the natural history of Corfu, and this year has found two species of fish that no-one knew were still around on the island.
In May he discovered the Corfu Toothcarp... which were previously thought to have been lost, and in October he located the Corfu Dwarf Goby which had not seen seen on the island for decades.

Very interesting article but didn't make me feel any better about them! Especially the bit about them standing up and fighting - 2 metres tall! Not to mention:
They're not fussy about what they eat, anything they can grab and overpower will do, and they also eat dead and rotting things.
