Woman ‘dragged dead dog down street’ after it died during walk
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/09/woman-dragged-dead-dog-down-street-after-it-died-during-walk/ (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/09/woman-dragged-dead-dog-down-street-after-it-died-during-walk/)
Sad story for all involved
For a while when I was working I visited a teenage boy at home who had become agoraphobic after being attacked in a nearby shopping centre. I used to go out walking with him gradually getting nearer to the shopping centre. On one occasion to break up the monotony (for me at least) I suggested taking the family dog for a walk as it seemed friendly enough and it made the exercise more "normal" in the mind of my teenage client who was hypersensitive to people looking at him. After about three hundred yards or so the dog sat down abruptly and started gasping like it had only minutes left in this world. The two first thoughts that flashed through my mind were: how was I going to get a dead dog of some size and overweight back home and how was I going to explain to his mother. Also I thought it was very unlikely that my professional insurance or my employer's liability would cover me in the event of being sued for not carrying out an appropriate "risk assessment" and the dog winding up kaput. And finally I couldn't go for help and leave the lad with the dog as he would have gone into total panic on his own setting back some weeks of work.
After waiting for some minutes Fido gradually picked up a bit and although still sounding pretty ropey the three of us made it slowly back to the boy's house. I explained to the boy's mother what had happened. She laughed like a drain, saying she wasn't at all surprised. The dog never went out and she knew he was on his last legs. Of course she had completely omitted to tell me any of this before we set out!
BTW Sad story indeed in the Torygraph. What would we do??! :(
