Greece Braces for Possibly the ‘Hottest Summer Ever’
Scientists have warned that Greece may experience the hottest summer ever as Spain and Portugal, are bracing for an early heatwave with temperatures possibly very close to 40 C (104 F) at the end of April.
Greek scientists say that the rise of temperature, prolonged periods of drought, and severe flooding due to rapid rainfall make up a horror scenario for the near future.

Purple jellyfish sightings in Ionian Sea cause concern
Concern has been raised about purple jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca) resurfacing in several areas of the country and particularly in the northern Ionian Sea.
However, it is considered premature for conclusions regarding the summer.
According to the iNaturalist Jellyfish of Greece digital platform, the species with an unpleasant sting has been spotted north and east of Corfu.

Government hits 20,000 new police officers pledge
The government has reached its target to recruit 20,000 more police officers in England and Wales.
It has employed 20,951 more officers since 2019 - taking the total number to 149,572.
This means the number of officers is about 3,500 higher than it was in 2010, when the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats entered government and began cutting police numbers.
The increase was promised in the Conservatives' 2019 election manifesto.
There are now fewer senior full-time police officers than in 2010.
The number of inspectors is down 14% to 6,245. The number of superintendents and sergeants has also fallen.
Currently, a third of all police officers in England and Wales have fewer than five years' experience where the length of service is known. This is more than double the number six years ago.
The Met police was the only force that did not meet its allocated target of additional officers. It fell short by of its 4,557 target by 1,089.

Not proven verdict to be scrapped in Scottish courts
Not proven is one of three verdicts that can be returned in Scotland, alongside guilty and not guilty.
The implications of a case being found not proven are exactly the same as not guilty and the accused is innocent in the eyes of the law.
But there has been concern that it can be confusing for juries and the public.
Critics of the verdict also say it can stigmatise an accused person by appearing not to completely clear them and that it can fail to provide closure for victims.
However some legal experts believe it can offer additional protection to an accused person by helping to ensure that they will not be convicted if the jury has any doubts.
And the Law Society of Scotland has warned there could be an increase in miscarriages of justice if not proven is scrapped.

A rescue team from local cat sanctuary SHUA Trust Home & Sanctuary managed to capture the animal on April 24.
The charity said they are the same as wild red foxes found in the UK, just with different colouration.

Parents with children at a Jersey secondary school have been sharing their bemusement after the headteacher wrote to them shutting down a rumour that cat litter trays had been installed in the school toilets.
Staff at Jersey College for Girls had been aware of the rumours circulating "for some time", with headteacher Carl Howarth calling the claims "clearly nonsense and utterly ludicrous".
The college is far from the first to face claims that litter trays had been installed in school toilets to cater for students "identifying as cats".
The internet hoax started out in the United States, where it became popular among conservative commentators and politicians including podcaster Joe Rogan and Georgia representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The UK, Germany, France and the US were the top source markets for tourism in Greece in 2022, according to a report released by the Bank of Greece (BoG) this week.
A closer look reveals that travelers from Germany generated more travel receipts, the Brits outnumbered all other nationalities in terms of arrivals, while US travelers spent more per person at 1,100 euros on average.
German travelers to Greece spent 740 euros on average compared to 730 euros in 2019, the French 720 euros from 700 euros, and the Brits 690 euros down from 730 euros in 2019.
