Greece: Adverse weather forecast across most of the country through at least May 3Severe weather is forecast across much of Greece through at least May 3. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts, lightning, and possible hail storms. Heavy downpours associated with the storms may trigger flooding in low-lying areas, and strong winds could cause property damage and power outages. As of early May 2, authorities have issued the following weather warnings across the country:* Orange thunderstorm warnings (the middle level on a three-tier scale): Ionian Islands Region* Yellow thunderstorm, heavy rain, and strong wind warnings: the rest of Greece, except the North Aegean and far eastern South Aegean regionsAuthorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days.Hazardous ConditionsSustained heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in low-lying communities near rivers, streams, and creeks. Urban flooding is also possible in developed areas with easily overwhelmed stormwater drainage systems. Sites located downstream from large reservoirs or rivers may be subject to flash flooding after relatively short periods of intense rainfall. Landslides are possible in hilly or mountainous areas, especially where heavy rainfall has saturated the soil.
