Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8846 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1304 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1193 USD   $1 USD = 0.8975 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7137 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5835 €UR

Based on National Bank of Greece exchange rates.
Other banks likely to offer rates which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Army officers linked to more plots

Citizen Protection Ministry officials are not ruling out the possibility that two military pyrotechnicians who were arrested last week for their involvement in the case of a parcel-bomb that was sent to the president of the Thessaloniki Appeals Court on February 12 may be linked to other terrorist plots, such as the attempted attack on the police riot unit headquarters in Athens last December.

The two uniformed officers, along with eight other suspects – four of whom are currently serving time in prison – are accused of forming a terrorist organization.

Frozen produce firm fined 742,000 euros for profiteering

Greek frozen foods producer Ainos was fined €742,000 for breaching the law against profiteering, Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Monday.

Of the 72 company products, 50 were found to have been sold at a higher profit margin than what the law allows in checks that took place between July 1 and September 30, 2023.

Allegedly the Greek Ministry of Culture has proposed that 45% of music played in public areas of hotels and tourists accommodation, shopping centres, airports and shipping ports and on public transport. Also proposed that radio stations be allowed 5% more advertising time provided they increase Greek language songs by 20%.

Greece records hottest ever winter, raising fears of summer fires

This winter was the hottest on record for Greece, according to data analysed by Greek scientists, threatening the viability of crops and raising fears of another summer of devastating wildfires.

Indeed, it was the warmest winter since records began in 1936, and follows a trend: six of Greece’s balmiest winters have been recorded in the last 10 years.
