Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8846 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1304 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1191 USD   $1 USD = 0.8975 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7236 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5801 €UR

Based on National Bank of Greece exchange rates.
Other banks likely to offer rates which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Sounds as though Argostoli hospital can appoint an additional seven doctors, Lixouri hospital one more.

Woman in northern Greece with 54 dogs fined

A woman providing shelter to 54 dogs was handed a 2,000-euro fine for not securing a hygienic environment and not ensuring the well-being of the animals.

The woman hosted 16 dogs in her house, while she took care of another 38 on an adjacent plot in the area of Litis, near Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

She was fined after complaints were lodged with local authorities about the existence of a large number of animals on her premises.

A police investigation revealed that 46 dogs did not have an electronic ID card or a health book. For the remaining eight, fines of 10,400 euros were imposed for lack of health records.

Thousands of seals gather on Horsey beach to shed worn-out winter fur

Thousands of grey seals have made a Norfolk beach their home for the next six weeks to grow new sleek protective coats.

More than 2,500 of the blubbery mammals are at Horsey, near Great Yarmouth, for the annual process of losing their worn-out winter fur, in preparation for new waterproof coats.

The important process involves the seals ridding themselves of dead hair by scratching and rubbing against the sand and rocks.

Parliament passes bill on coastal exploitation rules

A bill relaxing the rules of coastal exploitation was passed in Parliament on Thursday with 158 votes from the government majority in the 300-seat House, with all eight opposition parties voting against it.

The contentious legislation contains regulations on how businesses and self-employed professionals can exploit coastal areas with ventures such as beach bars, sun loungers, restaurants, and so on.

It also makes them responsible for the cleanup of the areas, enforces the presence of lifeguards, sets new limits on the number of umbrellas and loungers, among other regulations.
