A forest fire raging on Zakynthos since Tuesday evening has burned over 1,000 acres of woodland so far, while moving towards Volimes village and creating problems for the road system.According to local Imerazante.gr website, the fire started in the Orthonoi forest area. Currently there are 46 firefighters, 21 vehicles and one helicopter operating in the area, as aid from neighboring prefectures has arrived on the island.More aid is expected today (Wednesday) as winds have pushed the flames to the direction of Volimes village. More firefighting aircraft are expected as certain areas are inaccessible to firefighters.The flames have burned certain Public Power Corporation and some villages are left without electricity, while the road connecting Volimes and Orthonoi has been closed.
Unconfirmed but heard the Ionion Pelagos Lines Agios Gerasimos ferry won't be running on the Kef-Levkas route for a day or two due to its ramp mechanism malfunctioning. Last I heard, it's awaiting repair in Fiskardo.
