Party’s over? Bulgarian politician declares war on rowdy tourists at Europe’s cheapest holiday resort

The cheap drink and non-stop party atmosphere that has lured Britain’s young to Bulgaria’s Black Sea resorts is under threat from a “war on noise” that has seen nightclubs raided and a leading international DJ festival cancelled.

Over the weekend Valeri Simeonov, the deputy prime minister, led a raiding team of police, and tax and health officials that hit two clubs on Sunny Beach, Bulgaria’s brashest Black Sea resort, arresting one DJ and seizing sound equipment amid claims the clubs had broken sound regulations.

Car has gone over the cliff before the Livadi marshes on the Argostoli-Lixouri road, accident believed to be a fatality.


Yesterday evening a car driven by a foreign national deviated from the road just outside Vathi, Ithaka, crossed the beach and ended up in the sea.

Bear killed by motorist near Kastoria

The Arcturos bear conservation society in northern Greece said Thursday that a young bear has been killed after being hit by a vehicle on the road between Kolokyntos and Mesopotamia, near the town of Kastoria.

Officials said the motorist drove off without alerting the authorities.

Barcelona: 13 killed as van rams crowds in Las Ramblas

At least 13 people have died and 80 were injured after a van ploughed into crowds in Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas tourist area, police and local officials say.

The vehicle sped along the pedestrian area, mowing down people and sending others fleeing for cover.

Police are treating it as a terrorist attack.
