Fire burns on Zakynthos for third day

Authorities in Greece say a wildfire that broke out on the holiday island of Zakynthos on Saturday continues to burn unchecked.

The fire destroyed one home near the villages of Maries, in the eastern part of the island also known as Zante, while residents of nearby homes were on standby to evacuate, authorities said.

Fires Devastate Zakynthos, Police Seeking Arsonists

...one man suspected of arson is being questioned.

Some 80 fires have broken out on Zakynthos ravaging the island repeatedly over July and August including fronts in the villages of Volimes, near the world famed Navagio beach (photo), Vassiliko, Kalamaki, Agala, Pigadakia, Gyri, Kallithea, Galaro, Agio Leonta and Skoulikado.

Blazes continued to burn on Monday at Kambi, Pellilobi, Skouta, Anafonitria, Ano Volimes, Argassi and Agalas.

Kef police on friday arrested at the airport a Cameroon national and a Syrian couple with two young kids, all for trying use forged documents to board a flight out. Makes me wonder how they get to Kef in the first place and where they stay when here - presumably pose as tourists while here.
