Forty nine new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, four on Ithaka

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1632
1 USD = € 0.8559

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Allegedly, fitting and driving in snow chains is under consideration for adding to the Greek driving test and motorists will be be required to carry snow chains in their vehicles between October-April. Not sure how drivers will tested in their use when there's no heavy snow on the roads

That's now clarified:

Use of snow chains to become mandatory part of driving examinations

All new drivers will be taught how to install and remove tire snow chains as a mandatory part of their examination process according to a circular released on Wednesday by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Michalis Papadopoulos.

The minister has also asked Driving Schools to instruct drivers to carefully study the chapters of driving theory focusing on driving with reduced grip, the proper use of special tyres, and the use of slip-resistant equipment.

So, no testing of driving with snow chains fitted but possibly questions asked during the test re driving on slippery surfaces.

Covid: End of legal need to self-isolate in England

All remaining legal Covid restrictions have been removed in England, nearly two years after the first rules were introduced.

It means people are no longer legally required to self-isolate if they test positive for Covid - although they are still advised to do so.

Some critics say the plan fails to protect the most vulnerable.

All legal restrictions have already been lifted in Northern Ireland, but Wales and Scotland are easing measures more gradually.

Bees are explosively ejaculating to death during heat waves (PHOTOS)

What’s black and yellow and ejaculates until it dies during heat waves? Male bees, it turns out, and scientists — disturbed as they may be — have a solution.

When the males get too hot, they convulse until they explosively ejaculate to death, and a phallus the size of their abdomen bursts from their lifeless body.

“What we do know is that the sole purpose of the male bees, as far as we understand so far, is to mate with a virgin queen, and they don’t really contribute to the hive in other ways. Their only job is to, when they’re sexually mature, fly and find the congregation area where all the other boys go and find the Queen and chase her in mid-air.”

They always die after they mate.

Boris Johnson wrong on jobs claim, says statistics watchdog

The head of the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) has said Boris Johnson was wrong to claim more people are in work now than before the pandemic.

Writing to the PM, Sir David Norgrove said the number in work was estimated to be around 660,000 fewer than before coronavirus struck.

He suggested Mr Johnson had excluded a fall in self-employment numbers when making the claim.

He warned the "selective use of data" would "give a misleading impression".
