Kos Residents Prevent 75 Migrants from Disembarking on Island

The mayor and residents of Kos prevented the disembarkation of some 75 migrants and refugees coming from Kastelorizo on a passenger ship early on Saturday.

The port landing was blocked by municipal vehicles, while dozens of locals led by Kos Mayor Theodosis Nikitaras were at the port to prevent the disembarkation. The action followed a statement made by the mayor on social media.

In his statement, the mayor said that no more migrants will be allowed to be transferred from other islands to Kos, which already hosts 4,500, far above the capacity of hospitality structures on the island. He also demanded that the state take away some migrants from the island’s overcrowded hotspot.

Missing Tourist in Greece Found Alive and Well at Sea

A 45-year-old woman who went missing on Friday from the island of Folegandros was found on a dinghy on Sunday, many nautical miles from the point she was lost.

The tourist from New Zealand was found by a Heraklion Central Port Authority boat, 55 nautical miles north of Heraklion. She was exhausted when found and was transferred to the hospital as soon as the boat landed on Heraklion.

The woman from New Zealand was in Greece on vacation with her husband. They were sailing the Aegean on a sailboat. On Friday, the woman got on a dinghy to go shopping on Folegandros island.

In the afternoon, after she finished her shopping, she called her husband and said she is about to return to the sailboat.

From that moment on, her traces were lost.
