Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = $ 0.8823 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1334 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1246 USD   $1 USD = 0.8975 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7086 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5852 €UR

Based on National Bank of Greece exchange rates.
Other banks likely to offer rates which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

A Greek police officer with 225 pounds of marijuana in his patrol car is arrested after a chase

ATHENS, Greece — A police officer on patrol duty in northwestern Greece was arrested on drugs charges Friday for allegedly using his service car to smuggle marijuana, authorities said.

The suspect was detained in the port town of Igoumenitsa following a road chase, together with an Albanian man found to be riding in the unmarked police vehicle.

A search of the car uncovered 102 kilograms (225 pounds) of marijuana, a police statement said.

It said the detained officer ignored his colleagues’ orders to stop for a search and sped away, only coming to a halt after losing control of the vehicle and crashing into parked cars.

Police also arrested a second officer who had been on patrol duty with the suspect on Friday, but was allegedly found in a coffee shop some 20 kilometers (12 miles) away.

All three suspects faced drugs-related charges.

Greek oasis in heart of Emirates: Fake Santorini in Abu Dhabi to lure luxury travellers

Seeking a luxurious escape? Anantara Santorini Abu Dhabi retreat is latest entry in the region’s ultracompetitive hotel scene as an homage to the Greek island.

Getting to the Anantara Santorini Abu Dhabi Retreat from Dubai involves driving about 40 minutes past natural gas fields, grazing gazelles and a navy base. Once you’re inside the security gates, a cluster of white buildings rises up like it was transplanted from the Cyclades to the Arabian Peninsula. Noticeably missing, of course, are the blue-domed churches.

Jack the Ripper police file made public after 136 years

A lost police file on the Victorian serial killer Jack the Ripper has been found after 136 years by the great-grandson of a detective who worked on the case.

The police file was kept by Inspector Joseph Henry Helson, who was working in the Met Police at the time of the killings.

The killer’s archive is now being sold by Helson’s great-grandson at Whitton & Laing Auctioneers of Exeter, in Devon.

Police in plea to catch catapult attackers targeting animals following Sky News investigation

Police want the public's help to stop attacks on wild animals after a Sky News investigation revealed children were filming themselves using catapults to kill and torture.

Video and photos of the kills are being shared on UK-wide WhatsApp groups.

In some, animals are shown dying slowly after being shot, while in others children kick and abuse the animals after shooting them and pose with their bodies.

Sky News discovered nearly 500 members across 11 catapult groups on WhatsApp, in which more than 350 photos and videos had been shared.

Essex Police is now urging people to tackle "a disturbing crime trend which sees wild animals cruelly targeted for fun".

Aversion toward mortgages

Greece continues to have the worst performance in household credit, registering a consistently negative rate, which was -1.7% in January against a 0.3% increase in the eurozone, according to a report published on Thursday by DBRS Morningstar, focusing on the “slow production of new mortgage loans.”

The aversion to borrowing by households is observed despite the fact that the vast majority of new mortgage disbursements in Greece are at fixed interest rates, which, through successive reductions made by Greek banks recently, have fallen to historic lows.

Sainsbury's and some Tesco deliveries cancelled over technical issues

Sainsbury's says it will not be able to fulfil the "vast majority" of online deliveries on Saturday because of "technical issues".

Some stores are having issues with contactless payments, and others are only accepting cash as chip and pin is not working.

Sainsbury's apologised and said it was caused by an overnight software update.

Tesco said technical issues had forced it to cancel some deliveries due on Saturday. It has also apologised.

Proposals to crack down on puppy smuggling clear first Commons hurdle

Fresh proposals to crack down on the “unscrupulous” commercial trade of puppy, kitten and ferret smuggling has cleared its first hurdle in the Commons.

Conservative MP Selaine Saxby said the Animal Welfare (Import of Dogs, Cats and Ferrets) Bill will ensure that pets are not sold or traded as objects.

The Private Member’s Bill, which has the backing of government, proposes to ban dogs and cats under six months from being brought into the UK.

It also prohibits the importation of heavily pregnant animals and those with mutilations, such as cropped ears or a docked tail.
