According to Fraport, Kef airport had a slow start to summer season 2024.....Fraport considers this another indication that the season (on Kef) continues to contract.
.
We arrived this week to find everywhere very quiet indeed for this time of year.

Villas and apartments showing fully booked on their various booking sites are clearly empty and locked up.

Speaking with locals, they blame airlines for cancelling flights, especially from Northern airports.

The villas I mention are independent, with no connection to particular airlines or package holidays. So it's all jolly strange.

The desire to visit early season is there, but both accommodation and travel providers appear reluctant to assist.

A Mystery?.....or a Conspiracy?

In the early hours of this morning Fiskardo Port Station was informed that an Austrian flagged sailing yacht with two German nationals aboard had attempted a landing outside the port. A Port Authority officer was sent to assess the situation. With no marine pollution or water inflow the yacht was declared able to sail into port where it is confined until reclassified seaworthy.

Row over North Macedonia's name flares up again

North Macedonia's decades-long name dispute with Greece has flared up again, further jeopardising its path to EU membership.

Athens has warned its northern neighbour it will not ratify parts of a landmark 2018 agreement that had appeared to settle the row.

But the victory of nationalists in parliamentary and presidential elections in Skopje last week has enflamed the issue.

The VMRO-DPMNE party scored commanding victories, ousting the centre-left Social Democrats who struck the Prespa deal with Greece six years ago. Trouble was not far behind.

Post Office lawyer who oversaw Alan Bates case refusing to co-operate with inquiry

A FORMER top Post Office lawyer who oversaw Alan Bates’s High Court battle against the business is refusing to co-operate with the statutory inquiry.

Jane MacLeod, who was the organisation’s general counsel from 2015 to 2019, was listed to appear next month, but her name later disappeared from the Post Office Horizon IT inquiry schedule.

The Telegraph understands she is living in New Zealand and is refusing to appear in-person or by videolink to assist the inquiry.
While the inquiry has statutory powers, it cannot compel her to give evidence while she is abroad.

Strange one on Crete (and unconfirmed as yet): a 71 y-o native took advantage of a bank blip to help himself to 1,900€. The old chap was queuing behind a woman trying to withdraw the money from an ATM outside a bank in Heraklion. When the machine didn't release the money she entered the bank to resolve the matter. After bank staff assured her the cash had been dispensed she rushed out to collect her money from the machine, calling the police when she discovered it was missing. A quick review of security tapes revealed the old man had stuffed the notes in his pocket and vanished p.d.q. He was later identified and charged with theft.
