Infant found dead: Father admits to discarding child, mother hospitalized

Father of the infant found dead in the Attica region of Vravrona admitted to discarding the child in a waste bin.

According to sources, the man claimed to authorities that the child was born dead, stating, “I did not kill the child, it was born dead. I threw it away because I feared being charged with murder. I panicked, I didn’t know what to do.”

Initial assessments suggest the possibility of a miscarriage by the 30-year-old woman from Nepal, with her 30-year-old partner suspected of disposing of the body.

Labor productivity deficit in Greece
Greece ranks last among European states and keeps deteriorating, according to OECD data

Labor productivity in Greece is about a third lower than the average of its member-states, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said last week.

The details, as revealed by the special chapter of its annual Economic Outlook report, on Greece, are even more disappointing: Not only is productivity low, but it has fallen slightly in recent years. In addition, Greece ranks last in terms of productivity levels among European OECD members and fourth from bottom among OECD member-countries overall.

Greece to bring in Egyptian farm workers amid labor shortage

Greece will start bringing in workers from Egypt this summer to take on temporary farming jobs under a deal between the countries to tackle a labor shortage, the Migration Ministry said on Friday.

After a decade of pain, the Greek economy is forecast to grow nearly 3% this year, far outpacing the eurozone average of 0.8%.

But an exodus of workers during Greece’s economic crisis, a shrinking population and strict migration rules have left the country struggling to find tens of thousands of workers to fill vacancies in farming, tourism, construction and other sectors.

Greece will take in around 5,000 seasonal farm workers under the 2022 deal signed with Egypt.

Skrekas: Inflation at Greek supermarkets near zero

Development and Competitiveness Minister Kostas Skrekas stated in an interview with Parapolitika radio on Thursday that the inflation rate for food in Greece has eased by approximately 40%, namely from a rate of 8.3% to a rate of 5% at present.

“Of course, we are not yet at the point we want to be, which is under 2%,” he admitted.
