New £50 bank note 'must recognise ethnic minorities'

Comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar and presenter Sandi Toksvig are among those calling for a historic figure from a black and ethnic minority background (BAME) to feature on the new £50 note.

The Bank of England last month asked the public to nominate a British scientist to feature on the note.

Campaigners say the chosen figure should recognise "the contribution of ethnic minorities" to British culture.

Rare Jaguars Killed at Greek Zoo After Escaping Enclosure

Two rare jaguars have been shot and killed after they escaped their enclosure at a zoo near Athens.

The incident happened earlier in December but it was only revealed through an announcement by the Attica Zoological park on Saturday.

Its claim that anesthesia cannot be effective with such animals has raised eyebrows. Many Greek social media users cited the incident at a New Orleans zoo in July when a vet team sedated a jaguar that had escaped from its habitat and killed six animals.
