Fifty eight new cases of coronavirus confirmed yesterday on Kefalonia, two on Ithaka.

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1464
1 USD = € 0.8482

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

ANOTHER councillor has defected from the Conservative Party over the Downing Street parties scandal and the Prime Minister's controversial comments about the leader of the opposition.

Councillor Carmell Bell, who represents Crummock and Derwent Valley, has left the Conservative Party but will remain on Allerdale Borough Council as an Independent.

Cllr Bell feels that she can not remain in the Conservative Party due to the recent actions of the UK Government and it's leader Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Across the Ionian islands as a whole the following traffic violations were recorded by police in January:

30 for driving under the influence of alcohol
259 for speeding
93 for not wearing a crash helmet while riding a motorcycle/moped
86 for not wearing a seat belt while driving
25 for using a mobile phone while driving
42 for 'upstream traffic' (driving on wrong side of road?)
113 for driving without a valid license
30 for driving without valid insurance
88 for no valid KTEO

There were no deaths due to road accidents, compared to one in 2021, no serious road traffic injuries and a decrease in minor injuries.

Bristol University launches gender pronoun guide with ‘catgender’ and ‘emojiself’ options

A pronoun guide intended to educate Bristol University staff on gender inclusion has divided opinion due to references to ‘catgender’ and ‘emojiself’.

The university published this guide with links to sources stating that some people may identify as felines and others could use ‘emojiself pronouns’, which refers to the use of emojis to express a pronoun, which can be gender neutral.

According to the LGBTA Wiki the guide linked out to, "someone who is catgender may use nya/nyan pronouns". Nya/nyan means “meow” in Japanese. Catgender is also described as someone who "strongly identifies" with cats or other felines or “experiences delusions relating to being a cat or other feline".

Reactions to this guide have ranged from confused to outraged, with some referring to it as “beyond satire” and “embarrassing”.
