Kef fire risk 17/08/23: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8821 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1244 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1337 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8894 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Animal Rescue Kefalonia, a.k.a. DORIS, is running very short of food for the strays they care for. Donations of dry or tinned food will be very welcome and can be left at ARK on the Argostoli Industrial Estate - if the map above needs a bit of context, here's ARK on  a zoom-able Google map

Cash donations also welcome via the ARK website / ARK UK

New Covid wave has begun and masks should be worn again, scientists warn
Spread of new variant could cause extreme pressure on NHS and cause more damaging long-term health problems, Sage expert says

Experts have warned it is “reasonably certain” the UK is in another wave of Covid-19 – and suggested people should wear face masks again.

Hospital admissions for coronavirus have risen in recent weeks, just as the effectiveness of vaccines is wearing off, a new variant has emerged and ministers have decided Covid boosters will not be offered to nearly 12 million Britons this winter.

“Without ramping up surveillance, and in the face of waning immunity, we are travelling into winter more vulnerable and with blinkers on,” warned Christina Pagel, a member of the independent Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies that advises on the virus.

Bob Menendez, Democrat Senator for New Jersey and currently under (yet another) Federal investigation, is rumoured to be on vacation in Fiskardo. Not impossible as New Jersey has a large Greek community.
