Kef fire risk 20/07/23: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8953 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1559 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1169 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8651 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Sounds as though there was a bit of a bump involving two boats in Poros port yesterday evening when the INSOMNIA, flying the English flag, and the VENTO made contact during mooring causing minor abrasion to the VENTO. No injuries or marine pollution, both vessels confined to port awaiting re-certification of seaworthiness.

Crete: Human head discovered in waste sorting facility

Police in Crete are investigating the discovery of a human head, likely to be that of a male aged in his 30s, at a waste sorting facility in Hania.

A forensic examiner, Giorgos Mylonakis, said his first impressions are that the head belongs to a man and that his death occurred within the last 10 days.

A further search of the facility on Tuesday night revealed another trash bag containing the victim’s legs, while staff at the plant reportedly told investigators that they had processed a few more bags that were giving off a very pungent odor in the past couple of days but that the bags were no longer salvageable.

Ukraine war: Wheat prices soar after Russia threatens ships

Wheat prices have risen sharply on global markets after Russia said it would treat ships heading for Ukrainian ports as potential military targets.

Moscow pulled out of a UN deal on Monday that ensured safe passage for grain shipments crossing the Black Sea.

For the past three nights Russia has bombarded Ukraine's grain facilities in Odesa and other cities.

Former PMs Liz Truss and Boris Johnson pocket almost £20k each in severance payments

Truss, who served in Number 10 for just 49 days, was given £18,660 of taxpayers cash after the economic turmoil from her ill-fated mini budget.

Kwasi Kwarteng, who was sacked by Ms Truss in an effort to save her premiership, was given £16,876, according to the Treasury's annual accounts published on Thursday.

The papers also reveal that Boris Johnson, the now-disgraced predecessor of Ms Truss, pocketed the same amount as her in severance payments from the Treasury.

Among those to receive payments was Chris Pincher, who resigned as deputy chief whip in June last year over allegations he groped two men at an exclusive members club in London. Mr Pincher received a severance payment of £7,920 after stepping down.

Rishi Sunak, who resigned as Chancellor under Boris Johnson, also received £16,876.

...severance payments to ministers' teams of special advisers reached £2.9 million amid the political upheaval in Westminster...

In total, at least 45 whips, ministers and officials were handed severance payouts having been sacked or resigned in the year to the end of March. Of those given severance payouts, only Rishi Sunak - given £16,876 after quitting as chancellor in July 2022 - handed the entire sum back to the Treasury.

I think this was the womwn reported missing in The Sun newspaper. The paper had used a picture of Katelios pre-2010.
