Internet scams to be included in UK online safety billPlatforms to be required to protect users from pre-paid fraudulent adverts as well as user-generated scamsMeasures to protect people from internet scams will now be included in proposed online safety laws, the government has said.Under a previous draft of the online safety bill, platforms which host user-generated content would have a “duty of care” to protect users from fraud by other users.However, with this new change, the bill will require online platforms to protect them not just from user-generated scams, but also from pre-paid fraudulent adverts appearing on their services.These will include unlicensed financial promotions, or fraudsters impersonating legitimate businesses, as well as ads for fake companies.The change will affect the largest and most influential social media companies and search engines including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Google.
Ioanian sea natural gas reserves surveys conclude successfullyA geophysical survey carried out in the northern parts of the Ionian Sea to assess natural gas reserves has concluded successfully according to an announcement by the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Resources Management (HHRM) on Tuesday. This was the second such survey brought off by the international geophysical marine seismic acquisition and processing company Shearwater, on behalf of Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE). It followed through from the first survey that was concluded in the southern Ionian Sea in early February. The next step in the process is to analyse and evaluate the data, HHRM said.
