A 20 y-o local injured in a traffic accident near Fiskardo is awaiting an air-lift to hospital in Athens, the plane had to divert to Andravida near Kyllini due to the adverse weather on Kef that has hampered tourist flights.

Following a motor accident in Simotata earlier this afternoon the female driver had to be freed from the vehicle by firefighters before being taken to hospital in Argostoli.

Corfu affected by heavy thunderstorms

A heavy storm hit Corfu at 15.00 on Monday causing problems with the electricity system as well as with the operation of the Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport.

Eight flights were not able to land because of the thunderstorm, while three of them had to land at nearby airports.

Areas in the center and periphery of Corfu experienced power cuts.

A taverna in the coastal street Garitsas in the town of Corfu was damaged by falling trees. The owners and clients were not injured.
