UK should ban eating of dog meat, says MP
'I’d like our country to join in setting an example to the world,' says Bill Wiggin

Around 30 million dogs are eaten every year around the world, and the dog meat industry is worth up to $273m (£209m), the MP said.

Many dogs are slaughtered for market in a “deliberately cruel” way, including bludgeoning, hanging, boiling, skinning and blowtorching alive, he added.

“It is believed that inflicting suffering raises the animal’s adrenaline levels, tenderising the meat, and adding medical properties,” Mr Wiggin said. “Many consumers believe it has medicinal value and believe it brings good fortune, yet none of these alleged health benefits have any scientific basis.”

Between 1997 and 2017, 450 tonnes of dog meat were imported to Japan, he added.

The USA, Germany, Austria, South Australia, Taiwan and Hong Kong have already banned dog meat consumption. However, it is not illegal in the UK.

The world's biggest bee has been re-discovered, after decades thought lost to science.

The giant bee - which is as long as an adult's thumb - was found on a little-explored Indonesian island.

Abu Hamza's son 'trying to appeal' decision to revoke British passport after travelling to Syria to fight

The son of Britain's Abu Hamza is reportedly trying to appeal the decision to revoke his British passport amid the furore of the case of Isil bride Shamima Begum.

Sufiyan Mustafa, 23, was stripped of his UK passport in 2017 after travelling to Syria to fight with jihadists.

But at the end of last year he was said to have been stopped from boarding a flight to the UK from Turkey when his name was flagged as being on the terror watch list.

Now, a source told The Sun he is trying to overturn the Home Office decision to take away his British citizenship.

In our area we were treated to a spectacular Flypast by 11 RAF and USAF planes over Sheffield to commemorate 12 USAF airmen who died when their plane crashed into woods surrounding a local park on the 22nd February 1944.BBC BREAKFAST came live from Endcliffe Park where thousands came to see the spectacle and honour the Airmen. The foggy morning developed into a beautiful day so the flypast went ahead successfully much to the relief of everyone. It honoured the chap Tony Foulks who as a nine year old was in the park in 1944 when the plane crashed playing football with his friends and who still believes the crew steered the plane severely crippled away from them and a wide open field ,and crashed into woods thus killing everyone on board. He has been filled with guilt ever since and so for all these years has daily travelled some miles to tend their memorial and "talk "with the crew. A chance encounter with Dan Walker from Breakfast TV who was walking his dog and stopped to talk with Tony revealed the astonishing story and he determined to try and grant Tony's wish to have a flypast to commemorate 75years.All developed into a Worldwide story in a matter of a few weeks resulting in Tony's wish coming true this morning. It is a lovely story and now there is a move to get an award for Tony.
