Keir Starmer won't commit to more money for public services

Sir Keir's message to his party was that he would not promise to spend lots of money ahead of the next general election, which is due next year.

For political reasons, he wants to head off any attacks from the Tories and for economic reasons, he and shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves think it would be the wrong thing to do.

That is a hard message for many in his party to hear, and likely, many members of the public too, who want answers to the problems they face right now.

Growing the economy is a nice idea but I can't see why the Labour Party will be any more successful at this than the Conservatives. Let's be honest, if you want healthcare, policing, education for your (grand)kids you either pay for private healthcare, private security and private education or you pay through taxes. There's no financial fairy to magically fix it. JMO.

RSPCA investigate after 'tortured' hedgehog found spray-painted with legs tied together in Norfolk

A hedgehog has been put down after it was found "tortured" - with legs tied up, spines cut and sprayed with blue paint.

The animal was found alive, but in severe pain, in Holt, Norfolk, on Saturday.
