Fifteenth human foot in 12 years washes ashore in British Columbia

A fifteenth single human foot has washed up on the shores of the western Canadian province of British Columbia (BC) since 2007, police said, as the appealed for the public's help to identify its former owner.

Found in a shoe in West Vancouver on 3 September 2018, DNA tests showed it belonged to man, but the results do not match any profiles in the country's missing persons' database.

Almost all English local authorities to increase council tax, ITV News learns

Almost all local councils in England will increase council tax over the next year as a new survey seen by ITV News shows local government finances reaching breaking point.

In a sign that some councils can no longer protect core services for the vulnerable from cuts, nearly a third of councils intend to reduce adult social care and a quarter to reduce children's services.

Ferry services suspended due to strong winds

Passenger ferries remained docked in ports around Greece on Thursday, cutting off connections between the islands and the mainland, as a new cold front swept across the country, bringing rain, snow and gale-force winds.

Authorities also suspended ferry routes linking Kyllini with Zakynthos and Cephalonia.

Heard the Lixouri-Argostoli ferry had a problem docking in Argostoli, not sure if that was due to the weather but presumably that's the case.

If you know of anyone with fifteen legs (or possibly more) in the Vancouver area who is missing please call the Mounties!  (Cue X Factor music!)

Greece revises constitution to fight corrupt politicians

Under the current rules, ministers cannot be prosecuted if two parliamentary terms have passed since the alleged infraction occurred.

Specific changes to the articles are still under debate and another vote is to be held next month.

Thursday's revision will also affect presidential election rules so that parliament does not have to be dissolved in case of deadlock.

In 2015, elections were triggered after three successive presidential votes in parliament failed to agree on a candidate.

Planned changes also include the introduction of a political oath for state officials, and the definition of the Greek state as "religion-neutral".

Gov't, clerics still at odds over priests' salary status

The rift between Greek clerics and the government over a tentative plan to loosen close ties between the church and state seemed no closer to being resolved on Thursday as Education and Religious Affairs Minister Costas Gavroglou hit out at the Ecumenical Patriarchate for refusing to temper its stance on proposed changes to priests’ pay status.

Gavroglou has defended a tentative deal reached last year between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Archbishop Ieronymos, to cease characterizing priests as civil servants, saying it offered security to clerics.
