Chickens team up to ‘peck fox to death’
Chickens come home to roost for ‘inexperienced’ fox

A fox has died in extraordinary circumstances after losing the ultimate game of chicken during a night-time raid on a henhouse.

Students at Gros-Chêne secondary school in Brittany were shocked to discover the dead body of the fox riddled with peck marks during their morning rounds last week.

The school maintains their brood of free-range chickens ganged up on the animal, attacking it in large numbers and overcoming it.

The animal was reportedly surrounded, then killed in a corner of the building home to 3,000 chickens.

Greece wins plaudits for tourism performance

Greece outperformed other European Union countries in the travel and tourism sector last year, according to latest figures.

The sector grew at a rate of 6.9% – more than three and a half times the pace of the wider national economy, which grew by 2%.

The country outpaced the EU’s regional travel and tourism growth rate of 2.4%.

The sector represents 20.6% of Greek GDP compared to a global average of 10.4%.

This means that one in every five euros spent in Greece last year came from travel and tourism, worth €37.5 billion.

One quarter of all employment in Greece is based in travel and tourism – equivalent to almost one million jobs.

Seems the water treatment plant in Argostoli will now start circulating clean, drinkable water on 22 March. Though it may be 27 March until the system has only clean, drinkable water in it. Blip in the system on 15 March when the new system will be tested.

Man who killed chip-stealing seagull given curfew

A man who killed a seagull when it tried to steal his chips has been ordered to serve a curfew.

John Llewellyn-Jones, 64, of Bishopston Road, Cardiff, "smashed" the bird against a wall during a trip to Weston-super-Mare in July 2018.

He denied breaching the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 but was found guilty at North Somerset Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Storm Gareth: Missing dog winched to safety from Scotland mountain
Ben the dog ran away from his owners while on a walk near Loch Avon, the Cairngorms, on Monday, and got lost in the bad weather conditions of Storm Gareth

A dog that was stranded on a mountain in severe weather conditions for 48 hours, was rescued by a helicopter crew.

Ben ran away from his owners while on a walk near Loch Avon in the Cairngorms earlier this week and got lost in the bad weather conditions.

Two days later, the Inverness Coastguard helicopter crew rescued the Cavachon dog after he was spotted on a narrow ledge above a 200ft drop.

The crew were on a training exercise when winchmen were dropped off to collect the creature which appeared to be "terrified and cold".

Ben was covered in snow when he was brought onboard the helicopter after spending two days in the wintery conditions.
