Body of an 11 y-o local boy recovered from the sea yesterday afternoon after his mother reported him missing from Plaka beach, Fourni

A Cyprus flagged vessel with seven crew grounded in Agios Nikolaos bay, Ithaka, midday yesterday and suffered distortion to its rudder and water ingress. After freeing itself the boat was towed into Levkas port. No injuries incurred and no marine pollution observed, the boat was confined to port until repaired and re-certified seaworthy.

Transfer of real estate to go fully digital

The government aims to make the transfer of real estate a fully digital process, Deputy Digital Governance Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis has said.

“The goal is to make everything digital. When a property is sold, it should be digitally ‘locked,’ essentially for as long as the transaction lasts, so that it cannot be negotiated or sold somewhere else,” he told private broadcaster SKAI.

Islands still face August health staff shortages

Health and ambulance services on the islands are struggling to respond to increased needs with scarce capabilities in August for yet another summer.

Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Samos and Chios have just one ambulance operating around the clock and a second operating a few days a month.

Accident yesterday evening on the track leading up to Atros monastery outside Poros. Car with passengers hit a bump and overturned, fortunately not descending down a ravine.

If you've never been up there... I wouldn't try it in a car.

Perseid meteor shower to light up night sky

Stargazers are in for a treat on Saturday night when the Perseid meteor shower lights up the sky.

The phenomenon brings up to dozens of meteors an hour, created when debris from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle collides with the Earth's atmosphere and burns up.

This year the event is expected to peak during the night of August 12, into the early hours of August 13.

In this period, up to 100 shooting stars an hour could be visible.

Boars devour man

A 55-year-old fireman who went missing on July 22 in Evia was found dead on Saturday.

According to local reports the body of Apostolos Kastanas was found “devoured” by what appeared to be a pack of wild boars in the forested area of Lefkada Amfithea in Evia.

He was reported missing after he left his home in the village of Amfithea and went for a walk in the nearby forest but never returned.

Nafplion: An amateur fisherman spotted a shark on Kiverio beach

According to Proto Thema, in the previous days, an amateur fisherman spotted the shark, informed the lifeguard of the beach where he raised the yellow flag on his tower, and ordered everyone to get out of the sea.
