Facebook faces £500,000 fine from UK data watchdog

The UK's data protection watchdog intends to fine Facebook £500,000 for data breaches - the maximum allowed.

The Information Commissioner's Office said Facebook had failed to ensure another company - Cambridge Analytica - had deleted users' data.

The ICO will also bring a criminal action against Cambridge Analytica's defunct parent company SCL Elections.

And it has raised concerns about political parties buying personal information from "data brokers".

Facebook said it would respond to the report "soon".

The ICO also said another company - Aggregate IQ - which worked with the Vote Leave campaign in the run up to the EU Referendum - must stop processing UK citizens' data.

Greek Islanders Can Now Claim Transport Discounts

Residents of 49 Greek islands can now claim transportation discounts as announced earlier this year by registering on the newly launched www.metaforikoisodynamo.gr platform.

Announced earlier this year by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the relief measure currently in its pilot phase, foresees discounts for the transportation of goods and people to remote islands and is aimed at offsetting the extra cost of transportation to these areas.

Andreas Kalvos ferry allegedly stuck in Poros port due to a legal dispute between Kefalonian Lines and Ionian Group. Allegedly, Kefalonian Lines were buying the ship from Ionian Group but the ship wasn't delivered when expected.

Labour bought data on 1m mothers and their children
ICO to fine baby club Emma’s Diary £140,000 for infraction before 2017 general election

The Labour party bought data on more than 1 million new and expectant mothers and their children from a leading baby club ahead of the 2017 general election.

In May 2017, one month ahead of the general election, Emma’s Diary – the trading name of Lifecycle Marketing (Mother and Baby) Ltd – provided more than 1m records to the data broking firm Experian, according to the ICO’s notice.

For each of the records Emma’s Diary supplied the mother’s name, her address, the date of birth of the mother and child, and how many children under five were present in the home.

Experian then loaded the records into a database for the Labour party to use in a direct marketing mail campaign for the 2017 general election. The information was used in the constituencies for 106 parliamentary seats, according to the ICO notice.

Experian deleted the records following the 2017 general election. There is no suggestion of any breach of data protection legislation by Experian or the Labour party.

England's coming home, they're coming home.... Croatia 2:1 England a.e.t.

But first they play Belgium (yes, again), this time for 3rd place (!?!). That's on Saturday @ 15:00 BST / 17:00 EEST. Kef bars might be busy, but not so busy as they would've been on Sunday had England beaten Croatia. Oh well...
