I saw the same thing happen in Chania 2 years ago. A family of, I think, Fins walked out of a taverna on the harbour and when stopped brandished their wristbands. After a heated discussion with the Fins pretending not to understand any language but their own the police were called and, presumably, Fins became able to speak in tongues, paid up and went. The Greeks were not impressed and the word "malaka" was heard many times.
