Well, the population of Athens & Piraeus is decreasing due to the austerity measures - but not that quickly!

Sounds as though the Argostoli sea front down by Kiani Akti is to get a revamp to make it nicer for cruise ship passengers. Budget of 736,261 € (and 62 cents).

It's a dive. Coming up between 25-30 October, a junket for 10 journalists from the UK, Poland and Germany showing them what a great place Kef is for diving. They'll be visiting Melissani and WWII wrecks. And maybe getting wrecked on a visit to a winery.

Power theft on the rise, costing PPC and consumers millions

A bar owner at Kolonaki, central Athens, had his electricity cut off due to high unpaid bills. He was approached by an electrician who offered to reconnect the bar every Friday evening, so the bar could open for the weekend, and disconnect it again every Monday, to avoid detection – all for 800 euros a week.

EU Knocks Greece on Biased Height Rules for Police

An aspiring police officer persuaded Europe’s highest court on Wednesday that Greece’s height requirements for admission to police school may be discriminatory.

Irrespective of sex and footwear, Greek law mandates that all police candidates must stand at least 1.7 meters tall — about a tenth of an inch below 5 foot 7.

Orthodox Christians try to halt play, clash with police

Greek riot police have used batons to stop an attempted theater invasion by monks, priests and other Orthodox Christians protesting what they claim is a blasphemous play.

Wielding poles with Greek flags on them, some of the 100-strong crowd tried to break a police cordon Wednesday outside the Aristoteleion Theatre in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.

Protesters oppose the staging of “The Hour of the Devil,” an adaptation of a story by Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa about a discussion between a young woman and a personable devil.
