Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8798 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1366 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1112 USD   $1 USD = 0.8999 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7022 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5874 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Reason for the decision unclear to me but the Secretary General of the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece & Ionian Islands has ordered the transfer of municipal staff from O Kefalos theatre, Argostoli, to Lixouri. What they'll be doing there is unclear but it means scheduled events at O Kefalos have had to be suspended until further notice.

Plan in the works to modernize resident permits mechanism

The Migration and Asylum Ministry is working on a draft law to modernize the administrative mechanism granting resident permits to legal migrants. Addressing the relevant House committee on Wednesday, Minister Dimitris Kairidis admitted that the residence permit mechanism for legal migrants is far from supportive as the average waiting time is two years, while there are cases where the process takes longer.

Two more giant tortoises found dead in woodland near Exeter

Two more dead tortoises have been found by police investigating the deaths of several giant tortoises in woodland.

The two new discoveries make a total of nine giant tortoises found in Ashclyst Forest, north of Exeter, say police.

Russian Terrier covered in 17lbs of matted filthy hair after owner decided breed didn’t need clipping

A dog owner has been banned from keeping animals for five years after his ungroomed Russian Terrier was left suffering with 17lbs of filthy matted fur.

Owner Tim Springett did not groom his dog Barney for nearly two years, claiming he thought his pet did not need clipping due to its breed, a court heart.

The Russian Terrier was left carrying an extra 21 per cent of its body weight, with dirt and faeces found matted into its fur by staff at the RSPCA.

The charity said Barney was seized by Kent Police after animal welfare workers made several attempts to encourage Springett to have the dog groomed.

Guitar heroes: Mark Knopfler unites 54 rock legends, from Slash to David Gilmour, for new charity single
Renowned musicians including Joan Armatrading, Brian May and Bruce Springsteen contributed to the track

Mark Knopfler calls it “an embarassment of riches”, and rock fans will be inclined to agree. The Dire Straits frontman has assembled some of the world’s most renowned guitarists, from Slash and David Gilmour to Pete Townshend and Joan Armatrading, for a special charity song.

The supergroup, named Guitar Heroes, comprises 54 musicians who joined forces to play on “Mark Knopfler’s Going Home: Theme Of The Local Hero”, proceeds from which will raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Fake LastPass password manager spotted on Apple’s App Store

LastPass is warning that a fake copy of its app is being distributed on the Apple App Store, likely used as a phishing app to steal users' credentials.

The fake app uses a similar name to the genuine app, a similar icon, and a red-themed interface made to appear close to the brand's authentic design.

However, the fake app's name is 'LassPass,' instead of 'LastPass,' and it has a publisher of 'Parvati Patel.'

Football's rulemakers set to introduce blue cards for sin-bins
Senior levels of football could see a sin-bin brought into play that would dismiss a player for 10 minutes for dissent or tactical fouling. It could be trialled in the FA Cup.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will publish the detailed protocols for the trials on Friday, Sky News understands, with the new ruling expected to include blue cards.

In the trials, blue cards will give refs the power to send players off for 10 minutes for dissent or cynical fouls.

Two blue cards would result in the player's dismissal for the rest of the match, as would a blue and a yellow card.

Labour to scale down plans to insulate millions of homes as it abandons £28 billion green promise

Sir Keir and his shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves have come under fire for the climbdown, which a former adviser to Tony Blair John McTernan said was “probably the most stupid decision the Labour Party's made”.

A member of Sir Keir’s shadow cabinet also told the Independent the U-turn had been “handled dreadfully” and now risked distracting from two potentially disastrous by-elections for Rishi Sunak next week.

Keir Starmer does a U-turn. Who'd have imagined it?   :iroll:
