Plastic fibres found in tap water around the world, study reveals

Exclusive: Tests show billions of people globally are drinking water contaminated by plastic particles, with 83% of samples found to be polluted

The US had the highest contamination rate, at 94%.

European nations including the UK, Germany and France had the lowest contamination rate, but this was still 72%.

Almost 300m tonnes of plastic is produced each year and, with just 20% recycled or incinerated, much of it ends up littering the air, land and sea. A report in July found 8.3bn tonnes of plastic has been produced since the 1950s.

Google Chrome 61 is out

Google's Chrome team announced the general availability of Google Chrome 61 Stable today on the official Chrome Releases blog.

The new version of the web browser will be rolled out over the coming days and weeks to all devices that run the browser on Windows, Mac or Linux systems.

Since Chrome 61 is a security release, it is recommended to update to the new version as soon as possible.

You can run an update check for the new version by loading chrome://help/ in the browser's address bar. Chrome will query the update server when the page opens and download new versions immediately.

International cooperation to combat tax evasion

An automatic exchange of information about financial accounts (bank deposits etc.) between Greece and dozens of other countries will be launched in the near future to combat tax evasion.

Local police are warning the public to be aware of a telephone scam that occurred recently on Zakynthos. An unknown individual contacted a (Greek) resident and attempted to persuade him to deposit money in return for "fire damage compensation". Sounds a bit like the lads from Lagos scams, but given a local twist.

Since the weekend Kef police have arrested 3 Iranians and 2 Syrians for attempting to use forged documents to board a 'plane to Italy. A Moroccan national has also been arrested for people smuggling.
