Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8982 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1133 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1012 USD   $1 USD = 0.9081 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7200 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5813 €UR
1 €UR = R20.8872 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0478 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Fond as I am of Kefalonia, those who voted for Argostoli as one of the "more charming side of Europe" really do need to get out and see more of Greece (starting with Vathy on Ithaka).

If you live in the UK you'll probably get sick of the sight of these Christmas ads on TV but if you live in Greece and want to see what you'll (probably thankfully) be missing, this year's Christmas ads from Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Asda, Amazon, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons are all on digitalspy.com. Not on there, the ad for TK Maxx - not too bad a video but the soundtrack really kills it for me.

IMO all pretty forgettable. The Lidl ad could feature, say, a fox but  was obviously filmed with Lidl USA, not UK, in mind so features a racoon and Aldi's  Kevin the Carrot is imaginative but maybe getting a little bit stale. Thankfully, Baabour saves the day with Shaun the Sheep:

Municipality of Sami have given residents ten days to cut back / cut down any trees or bushes that extend onto and obstruct public areas, failure to comply will likely mean the municipality undertakes the work at owner's expense.

Pro-Palestine march: Armistice Day organisers back protest as Braverman accused of ‘boosting far-right’

The organisers of Remembrance Sunday have backed Saturday’s march for Palestine as far-right groups are preparing to descend on London on Armistice Day.

A call to arms has been issued on social media by the Democratic Football Lads Alliance, a right-wing organisation that uses football fan networks to spread Islamophobic hate.

But the Royal British Legion, which runs the Poppy Appeal, said: “Our armed forces play a vital role in protecting the rights and freedoms of everyone in UK society, including the right to protest.”

The constitutional consequences of Mrs Braverman

Suella Braverman has decided to set fire to a core aspect of the British model of policing, the operational independence of the police from ministers.

The Home Secretary has done two things which undermine the constitutional position of the police. First, she has been applying overt pressure on the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police to ban a protest march in London on Saturday. She has been trying to interfere, in explicit terms, in operational decisions that are reserved for the police, not politicians. Indeed in calling on Sir Mark Rowley to take an action which in his view does not meet the necessary legal threshold, she has been asking him to act unlawfully.

In doing this she is undermining an institutional arrangement that has been in place since the Statute of Winchester in 1285.

Cat-kicker caught after video footage went viral admits animal cruelty charge

A dog-walker caught on doorbell camera footage as he viciously kicked a 21-year-old cat into a road has been ordered to complete 300 hours of community work.

Terry Bree, 71, was charged last month after “extremely distressing” video of the attack on the cat, which died three weeks later, was posted on social media.

Bree pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on September 16.

Bree was banned from owning or keeping a cat for the next five years, and ordered to pay £200 in compensation, £185 in costs and a victim surcharge of £114.

Gmail: Google issues three-week warning to account holders
Emails, documents, photos and videos will all be permanently deleted

Google has begun warning users that it will delete millions of Gmail accounts next month as part of a major update to the platform.

The purge will impact all personal Google accounts that have been left dormant for at least two years, with emails, documents, spreadsheets, calendar appointments, photos and videos all permanently deleted.

The policy was introduced earlier this year but is set to come into effect in December 2023.

It certainly looks and sounds like Albouro. We could never understand how the placing of tables & chairs and sunbeds
were allowed. To walk to the beach or other establishments past Albouro you have to either walk through a maze of tables
and people eating or weave your way through the sunbeds all standing on what looks like builders sand, that's if you don't
want to have a paddle
