Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8810 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1350 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1220 USD   $1 USD = 0.8912 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7033 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5870 €UR
1 €UR = R21.6103 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0462 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Conwy dad of three 'shocked' to find baby gecko with a missing tail in bag of Asda chillies

A Conwy dad-of-three was shocked to see a baby gecko drop from a bag of chillies he bought from a supermarket, and fall onto his kitchen work surface. Kevin Cuthbert purchased the red-hot Scotch bonnet chillies from an Asda Superstore in Llandudno a week earlier.

He said: "When I found the gecko, it was missing its tail - it must have shed it when it was being packed.

"After a couple of days, I noticed it was growing back, so I thought there was a chance it might survive."

The family were determined to keep the reptile alive and have now named him "Scotty".

Trump ordered to pay $83m for defaming E Jean Carroll

Former President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay $83m (£65m) for defaming columnist E Jean Carroll in 2019 while he was president.

Mr Trump was already found to have defamed Ms Carroll and to have sexually assaulted her in the 1990s.

The New York jury's penalty comprises $18.3m for compensatory damages and $65m in punitive damages.

Mr Trump took the stand on Thursday for a short testimony, and on Friday stormed out during closing arguments.

Greece Rejects EU Prosecutor’s Call to Charge Ex-Ministers Over Train Crash

A request by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to Greece to prosecute two ex-ministers for culpability in a February 2023 train wreck that killed 57 people was rejected by Greece’s New Democracy government.

The incident caused massive protests and led to the resignation of then Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis, cited by EU Prosecutor Popi Papandreou, along with former transport minister Christos Spirtzis from the major rival SYRIZA.

Demonstrators blamed high-level mismanagement and corruption for the crash a freight train and passenger train and Karamanlis said he didn’t have time to implement electronic safety measures that weren’t working.

Revealed: UK granted asylum to Rwandan refugees while arguing country was safe

Four Rwandans were granted refugee status in the UK over “well-founded” fears of persecution at the same time as the government was arguing in court and parliament that the east African country was a safe place to send asylum seekers.
