State prepares to launch its asset register

Greeceā€™s asset register is expected to have launched operations by the end of the first quarter of next year, although not in all areas that it is finally expected to cover. It is destined to include all the properties that each taxpayer owns. Greeks who conceal revenues, properties and other assets of high value will face huge fines if caught out by the authorities.

Once fully operational, the asset register will offer the state full access to data on other assets too, such as bars of gold, recreational boats and aircraft, and even cash stashed at home, so it can determine both taxes due and whether each of the 8.5 million taxpayers is actually entitled to various benefits, tax exemptions etc.

Did British tourist die in Kalymnos due to lack of ambulance services?

A 74-year-old British woman died on the island of Kalymnos on September 3. The Panhellenic Federation opt Public Hospital Employees (POEDIN) issued a statement alleging the woman might have been saved if an ambulance had been available to transport her to the island hospital.

The statement by POEDIN points out that the island of Kalymnos, which has 16.000 permeant residents, a number which rises significantly during summer does not have a night shift ambulance.

Debit card glitch means thousands charged twice

Thousands of people in the UK werhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45400234e charged twice for debit card payments.

The error occurred due to an issue with a particular card terminal run by Cardnet, a joint venture between Lloyds Bank and First Data.

Money came out of bank accounts twice but transactions only showed up once on many shop, pub and restaurant receipts.

Lloyds Banking Group said just under 5% of Cardnet machine transactions were affected on part of 29 August and all affected customers had been refunded.
