Kef fire risk 04/07/23: Medium

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8856 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1226 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1292 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8908 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Well,  indeed some talentless tossers in Parliament, Lee Anderson, Nadine Dorries and Liz Truss spring immediately to mind, but Wow, what a vote winner, especially in 'Red wall' constituencies!

Video of Waiter Wading into the Water to Serve Goes Viral in Greece

A video of a waiter wading above his waist into the water to serve customers has gone viral in Greece and has led to a chorus of criticism over labor rights in the country.

The video shows a young waiter holding a tray in his hand almost forced to swim in order to serve customers of the beach bar in Agia Marina, Rhodes who were sitting on floating structures in the sea.

How Brits went soft on toilet paper

Some of us may remember hard toilet paper and shudder a little as we recall the shiny, smooth sheets. But there was a time when Brits proved difficult to convince of the benefits of soft toilet tissue.

Court upholds double life sentence for man who poisoned two women

A Mixed Jury of Appeal in Thessaloniki upheld on Tuesday the two life sentences imposed on a 51-year-old university lecturer for the fatal poisoning by arsenic of his wife and her grandmother several years ago.

The judges unanimously found him again guilty of double premeditated murder, while they did not recognize any mitigating circumstances. The sentence of two life terms means 25 years of actual imprisonment.

French flagged cruise ship Le Lyrial said to be calling in to Poros this Sunday, 02 July at 09:00, departing 17:00.

Some claims this was a "historic first" for Poros but I've previously heard from various locals that Poros was the first destination on Kefalonia to welcome mass tourism when a French cruise ship called in over thirty years ago.

Captain Tom Moore’s daughter accused of using charity name to build spa and pool complex

The daughter of war veteran Captain Tom Moore has been accused of using her father’s charity name to construct a spa and pool complex at her home.

Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband, Colin Ingram-Moore, informed local planners in their application that they wanted to build an office for The Captain Tom Foundation. However, the result was a 50ft by 20ft pool house complete with changing rooms, toilets and showers, The Sun reports.

Police launch fresh probe into partygate allegations and reopen Tory HQ probe

The Metropolitan Police said it has reopened its investigation into potential Covid regulation breaches during an event at Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) in December 2020 and has launched a new probe into a gathering in Parliament during the same month.

The Christmas event under investigation at CCHQ was for former mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey's campaign team.

But the force will not open an investigation into further potential breaches of the regulations in Downing Street, and Thames Valley Police will not investigate potential breaches at Chequers, the grace and favour country residence, when Boris Johnson was prime minister.

Seems the parking system in Lassi - one day one side, next day t'other side - has broken down, possibly due to tourists unaware of the arrangement.
