Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8826 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1330 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1288 USD   $1 USD = 0.8975 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7065 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5859 €UR

Based on National Bank of Greece exchange rates.
Other banks likely to offer rates which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Illegal hotel sprouts up near former royal estate

A hotel that has sprung up near the former royal estate of Tatoi in northern Athens is on course for demolition.

The 2,000-square-meter hotel has been illegally built by a businessman who was granted a permit to carry out repairs on a 120-square-meter building that was damaged in a major wildfire in the summer of 2021.

He has been slapped with a fine of 2.6 million euros and once the administrative procedure is completed, the building will be slated for demolition, taking its place on the long list of illegal structures that need to be torn down across the region of Attica.

The Greek Orthodox Church hasn't come to terms with gay marriage but it's moving into the IT age: the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kefallinia yesterday took delivery of laptops and printers for the parishes. The country's clergy will also benefit from courses in basic computer skills and digital services.
