Greek authorities on alert due to new West Nile virus casesGreek health services are on high alert after two more cases of patients diagnosed with the West Nile virus were detected in the prefectures of Achaia in the Peloponnese and Rethymon in Crete. These are the latest areas where the virus, transmitted via mosquito bites, was located after an initial case was detected in Arcadia in August. The fatal cases so far are three and concern elderly people. Experts estimate in the report that more cases of the West Nile virus infections are expected in Greece.
Does the UK need a human 'body farm'?You are dead. Now what? It's the start of a fascinating and eventful - if gory and smelly - journey, at least for your body as it decomposes.Understanding decomposition can hold the key to solving murders, finding missing people and crucially recognising them, and that is why "body farms" exist.Body farms are essentially outdoor laboratories where experiments using donated human cadavers investigate taphonomy - the science of decomposition.Worldwide there are several such facilities: one in Australia, the others are in the US. But now UK scientists, including Dr Anna Williams from the University of Huddersfield, are lobbying for one in the UK.
