Most Greeks don’t trust EU, according to Eurobarometer

Around eight in 10 Greeks (79 percent) believe their voice is not being heard in the European Union, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Friday.

The results also showed that Greece is the country with the most misgivings about the EU, with 70 percent saying they do not trust it.

The survey showed that 43 percent of Europeans have a positive image of the EU – the highest level since autumn 2009.

One bank account seized each minute

The country’s tax authorities have been performing 52 confiscations an hour, or almost one every minute, seizing the bank accounts of salary workers, pensioners and corporations.

Ready to go? Greek island will pay you to live there

The authorities will provide each family with a monthly stipend of €500 ($572), free accommodations & even free food, if they make a permanent move to the island

A joint plan drawn up by the Metropolitan Bishop of Kythera and Monemvasia along with the local council of the small island of Antikythera, hopes to bring life back to the beautiful Greek island which is now home to only 24 permanent residents.

The aim of the Bishop and the local officials is to find families with more than three children who are willing to relocate and live permanently on the island of Antikythera. The authorities will provide each family with a monthly stipend of €500 ($572), free accommodations, and even free food, if they make a permanent move to the island.

Speaking with the Greek website iefimerida, Andreas Charchalakis, the president of the local council, says that they are actively looking for people who are willing to work as fishermen, stock-farmers, builders or bakers.

The vets who treat poorly animals at Christmas

The Christmas decorations are up, the fridge is stocked and we are nearly ready to relax and overindulge on this most wonderful time of year.

But those festive treats and knick-knacks can be harmful to our pets - with one vet saying she treats three times the number of animals in December than any other month.

Even after bailout exit, holiday meals will be frugal

Greeks are again preparing to celebrate Christmas on tight budgets.

A traditional Christmas dinner for six to eight people, which includes turkey, pork or lamb, salads, soft drinks, wine and dessert, will cost 149.09 euros on average, almost the same as last year, according to a recent survey by the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship.

Turkeys are naturally cannibalistic and are awful at times not only to each other but if you fell down ill amongst them they would peck and subsequently eat you. When fully grown they are vicious and  can give you some very bad wounds. I speak from experience!!My family grow 9000 at a time in many warm clean and well ventilated sheds with very few casualties. Why ill treat your stock ?You are the one who will loose out as any bird not up to perfect state of health will not be acceptable and you will not get paid. Some of these activists don't have a clue .Don't get me wrong there are poor growers but not only do their animals suffer ultimately they will go out of business, so their loss!!!

Glad to hear, Colley, your family look after the turkeys they produce. We'd like to all want them to have happy-ish lives - anyone remember Trevor the Turkey in Brookside some years back? If the market was as efficient as you say the bad producers would have gone out of business.  Some must be getting away with poor standards and find it helps the profits.  Either they or the production system works to cover up animal abuse and/or enough of the public are not too concerned.  I'm not wanting to sound all militant vegan - I'm not even a veggie - but like you I'd like to think things were imoroving.
