Apparently the mayor of the region, Theofilos Michalatos, believes the recent fires on Kef have been started deliberately to destroy homes and property and has called in specialist police officers from the greater Athens area. Not clear what, if any, evidence he has for his claims.

Earlier this afternoon a fire broke out at the landfill near Argostoli resulting in a low black cloud over the town and also Thinia and Dilinata. Residents urged to keep windows closed, questions being asked about what's getting burnt by the fire at the landfill.
