Paliki police on Wednesday arrested a man and a youth, foreign nationals from what I can make out, for stealing metals from a school in the area, namely iron railings and a manhole cover.

In the wake of a spate of serious road accidents caused by trucks, Transport Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis on Thursday heralded the creation of a new state body to oversee truck safety.

Chrysochoidis announced the plan to boost safety checks amid indications that 26 percent of trucks on Greek roads have been in circulation for more than 30 years.

The reduction in the value-added tax on catering has not only resulted in smaller-than-expected revenue losses for the state coffers, it has also stemmed the flow of restaurant shutdowns and is expected to create thousands of new jobs in the sector.

Greece speeds over 200 Mbps available by Cosmote

Cosmote Greece enabled the visitors of this year's InfoCom World conference to experience speeds over 200 Mbps available through its 4G network. Cosmote presented at its booth the enhanced capabilities of its network after the recent acquisition of new spectrum in 800MHz and 2.6GHz, through the pilot operation of a Base Station of short range. With the speeds achieved by Cosmote in the pilot demonstration, a 4GB movie can be downloaded in less than 3 minutes, and more than 150 songs of 8MB can be downloaded in just 1 minute. Fully exploiting the spectrum areas available, Cosmote assesses that it can record speeds of up to 300 Mbps. For this purpose, the company starts pilot tests immediately, so that these speeds can be commercially available in selected areas in the first half of 2015.
