Online Safety Bill: Plan to make big tech remove harmful content axed

Controversial measures which would have forced big technology platforms to take down legal but harmful material have been axed from the Online Safety Bill.

Critics of the section in the bill claimed it posed a risk to free speech.

Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan denied weakening laws protecting social media users and said adults would have more control over what they saw online.

The bill - which aims to police the internet - is intended to become law in the UK before next summer.

But some have criticised the latest changes, including Labour and the Samaritans who called it a hugely backward step.

Storms on the way as new low-pressure system comes in from West

Greece is expected to be hit by a low-pressure system coming in from Italy in the West on Tuesday evening, before it marches east to other parts of the country through Thursday.

In an emergency bulletin issued on Tuesday, Greece’s national weather service (EMY) warned that the weather system, dubbed “Ariel” by its Italian counterpart, will bring a lot of lighting and thunder, as well as sudden, heavy showers that may cause flooding.

EMY said that the areas which are most vulnerable include the Ionian islands...

Dog shoots owner dead

A man in Turkey has been reportedly shot and killed by his own dog on a hunting trip after the pet stepped on the trigger of his shotgun.

Ozgur Gevrekogulu, 32, died in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Samsun last weekend.

Local police originally took one of his hunting companions into custody, according to the Anadolu news agency.

Mr Gevrekoglu was loading equipment into the boot of his car after the trip to the Kizlan Plateau when his dog jumped on the back of a friend, stepping on the trigger of a shotgun, the Cumhuriyet newspaper reported on Sunday.

The 32-year-old hunter, who reportedly became a father just two weeks earlier, died from a bullet wound in his stomach before paramedics arrived at the scene.

Tattoos Were for Criminals in Ancient Greece

Tattoos were considered a sign of “otherness” in ancient Greece, as it was either foreigners or slaves, criminals, and captives who had tattoos in ancient Greek society.
https://greekreporter.com/2022/11/28/tattoos-ancient-greece/

Wasn't sooo long ago only foreigners and criminals had tattoos in the UK. Now even police persons have them.

Mind you, seemingly police and criminals are sometimes one and the same.

How to apply for Greece’s digital nomad visa

Greece has joined a number of European countries in attempting to lure remote workers with a new “digital nomad”-style visa.

The Greek Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) - issued under Law 4825/2021 - allows non-EU citizens to legally live and work in Greece.

However, as with all of these schemes, eligibility restrictions do apply. Here’s everything you need to know.

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8920 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0777 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1211 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9279 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.
