In the year up to the end of July, British visitors spent more than 1 billion euros in this country, which constitutes an annual increase of 37.2 percent. The number of tourism arrivals from Britain soared by 29.3 percent to exceed 1.3 million, which also means that per capita spending by Britons in Greece has risen this year.

British holidaymakers 'actively avoiding muslim countries'

Three out of four British holidaymakers are actively avoiding Islamic countries following recent acts of terrorism, according to a new survey by travel deals company Travelzoo.

Almost the same number said the migrant situation had put them off travelling through the Channel Tunnel or by Eurostar.

Working with consumers and travel agents, Travelzoo identified Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Greece and Thailand as the traditionally popular tourist spots British people are now most afraid of visiting.

Civil defence 'air raid' sirens will be tested across Greece tomorrow at 11:00 for one minute. In practice, this seems to mean they might be heard in Argostoli, elsewhere on Kef the first you're likley to know is when the bombs drop. But if I hear a good rumour I'll be sure to post it on GGi... once I'm safely somewhere else
